Tuesdays off year elections were touted by some analysts as repudiation of George Bush, noting the retention of Democrats for governor in New Jersey and Virginia. The bigger and more troubling vote was the City by the Bay's approval of a measure mandating surrender of all handguns by April 1st.
The mainstream media has been eerily silent on this earthshattering development. They rant about the repudiation of Schwarzenegger's reform proposals, the gubernatorial races and the rejection of gay marriage in Texas, gloating at the weakened Republican party. Like a pack of hyenas circling mortally wounded prey, the liberal media and their annointed champions in Congress and the DNC claim the season of the electorate's discontent with Republican rule is unleashing early winds of change, anticipating the gale force expected in '06 and '08. Meanwhile, the most intrusive and wholly sickening vote occurred in San Francisco. There, proposition H was approved by 58% of misguided voters. In effect emasculating the citizen's ability to protect him or herself from predators within their house, this grandaughter of a similar measure offered by then Mayor Diane Feinstein prohibits the manufacture, distibution and sale of all firearms and ammo within city limits. Worse, if that's possible, all citizens are required to surrender their handguns to the authorities by April 1st, 2006 or face prosecution threatening as yet to be determined penalties. I'm amazed that in a country grounded in personal freedoms, not the least of which is the ownership of guns affording its citizenry defense against criminals and yes, the government, the majority of a large city would so willingly surrender this precious right. This capitulation to liberal rhetoric and emotional pleas from the Brady Center for Gun Violence flies in the face of account after account from accross the nation of individuals successfully defending their person and property with handguns. Even more incredible is that in the wake of New Orleans' experience with looting and the oft chronicled gun owners' defense against would be thugs, residents of a city just waiting for the next big earthquake would disarm so readily. How could San Franciscans ignore the experience of Washington D.C. or Chicago, where with less draconian statutes (at least current owners were grandfathered in those cities), gun violence has only increased since implementation? Perhaps we need only look as far as their history of electing officials who marry gays against state law, having parks overrun with homeless and psychotic 'residents', and the bizarre gay pride parades which demean wholesome traditional relationships, all owing to a culture of politically correct tolerance of all things unconventional and socially fringe. Which brings me to a glaring absence among the voices on either side of the gun control issue....the ACLU. Search as I could, there have been no utterances in support of our most basic liberty by the self proclaimed defender of Americas rights. This deficiency exposes the ACLU for what it is, a radical and rudderless vessel of liberal cargo, devoid of any traditional sense of the affirming values that make us the strongest and most shining example of self determination on the planet. The National Socialist Workers Party realized in the 1930's that the first crucial step in attaining dominion over the German populus meant seizing their guns, the citizens' only means of defense against tyrannical government. One can only speculate how many times the millions of holocaust victims would roll over in their graves in light of the sorry goings on in San Francisco. It's clear that folks have left their hearts in San Francisco, 'cause they sure show no evidence of having any brains there. |
