"After 35 years in America, I never thought I would see this."  So wrote Stuart Varney, English-born Fox business correspondent in the Wall Street Journal on Saturday.  He was referring to the Obama administration's refusal to allow the payoff on a $1 billion TARP 'investment'.  As ex-GM chief Rick Waggoner found out, getting in bed with the U.S. government can result in severe injury.  Now it appears that the administration's agenda for banks is as clear:  Prohibit extrication from the puppet meisters, and watch out as they whittle control from private hands.  Tim Geithner warned of as much, telegraphing that bankers' heads may roll as he appeared on CBS's Face The Nation.  Watch for more power plays and governmental picking of winners and losers to gain momentum as the economy loses it.

Controversy abounded Saturday after I related my story of seeing a couple in civies leave me in their dust the week before.  No lights flashing; not a peep from the siren.  When I caught up due to interference in their lane, it appeared at 10 AM on a Sunday morning consistent with an off duty St. Louis County police officer and his wife perhaps a wee bit late to services......

On the other hand, perhaps it was a male/female undercover pair dressed in suit and tie/flowery dress respectively, getting ready for a bust.  Unlikely, I surmised.  I suppose it wouldn't have bothered me if I hadn't just mde the 3 hour run from north central Missouri home at just a tad over the speed limit (OK, at least I admit it!) for fear of being ticketed, having insurance gouge me further and most important eduring the embarrasing cat calls from my wife and 3 kids after the event.  The question is of course, should this be a perk we should expect and tolerate, or not?  The consensus from callers  was uniformly 'NOT', judging from your calls.  One fella even suggested a citizens arrest.  Yeah right, I'm going to risk the retribution of a cop who can find where I live, monitor my comings and goings and in general potentially make my life miserable.  I think I'll give 'em a pass every time.  You?  Register and 'Shout out" your advice.
