Eating Green

eatinggreen_resizedThe “green” movement is everywhere today. Retailing, public policy, even pet foods. Read below for some tips to a healthy lifestyle:

We all want a healthy and sustainable environment, right? But if we think about it, its the same with our bodies. We want a healthy body that can fight off both externally and internally generated toxins, which causes cellular damage, ultimately leading to cancer and pre-mature aging. Of course, not forgetting how lousy we feel when our metabolism is out of balance. So here is a simple tip to remember either when grocery shopping, or ordering out:

If it’s green, go for it, except for certain sugary and caffeinated beverages; if it’s white, avoid it, except for cauliflower or milk.

There are, of course, some exceptions, but it helps to keep me on track! For breakfast, it may mean milk and green tea with honeydew melon or grapes. You can get creative, like eating blueberries and a microwaved egg. I know, it’s a stretch, but when you mix blue and yellow together, you get green, right? At the same time, we avoid sugars and processed grains in the form of white bread, rolls, cereals, etc. Whole grains, usually brown or tan, are a much better choice in limited amounts. For lunch and dinner, think green vegetables, like broccoli, bell peppers, and green beans. And don’t forget the salad with a non-mayo based dressing. Mayo is white, right? How about a simple, green olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette instead?

Try the “Green is good, white not-so-much” rule, and you will love being “green” from now on. If you have any questions or comments, contact me or write a post in our forums.
